The physician will provide specific guidelines for the care of EPICEL once the patient leaves the hospital. In most cases, once the patient’s EPICEL grafts are fully healed, the patient can resume physical activity, under a physician’s guidance. Depending on the extent and severity of burns, the physician may also recommend:
- Bathing with mild soaps and moisturizing with mild lotions. Lotions containing alcohol should be avoided, as they may tend to over-dry the new skin
- Gently applying lotion, being careful not to over-moisturize the skin
- Avoiding brisk massage and movements that create friction, as this may create blisters
- Wearing pressure garments to help promote healing
- Taking precautions against excessive exposure to heat and sunlight
- Never donate blood or blood parts, tissue, breast milk, egg, sperm, or other body parts for use in humans.
Please talk with the treating physician regarding any questions about EPICEL and long term care.
